More for the collection

Three more medals recently offered, I wish I could resist but here they are.

Above we have: India General Service Medal – Afghanistan NWF 1919

To – 34599 Pte E Knowles N Staff R

This is the Afghanistan North West Frontier clasp. Edwin Knowles served in the North Staffordshire Regiment. He also has a Medal Index Card stating the he is entiltled to a WW1 British War Medal and that he also served as 20330 Pte in the Lincolnshire Regiment. Another interesting character to be looked into.

Next we have, below –

Africa General Service Medal – Kenya Clasp

Engraved – 4 TPR Daniel Thega s/o Weru

s/o on inscription denote Son of Weru.

No regiment is engraved as is common for Native soldiers with this clasp. Another example of the old adage ‘medals were not named for medal collectors!’

Lastly we have –

General Service Medal – Malaya Clasp named to K Yeoman

22198995 Pte K Yeoman Suffolk

It will be interesting to research where the Suffolk Regiment were during this campaign and when, in relation to The Gurkha Transport Regiment or its predecessor The Gurkha Army Service Corps (MT).
