India Medal. Malakand, Chitral, Tirah, Punjab

Via Flickr:Extremely rare example of a bronze India Medal issued to:3115 Mule Driver Nakibullah Queens Own Corps of Guides

.There are 4 clasps, Relief of Chitral, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Malakand 1897, Tirah 18977 – 98.

The order on the ribbon appears incorrect however research tells us that the Relief of Chitral clasp which should be on the bottom was made without the correct fixings. The medal was issued to British and Indian Forces. There were only ever 7 clasps available. The most rare being the Defence of Chitral which also appears on this site. The ribbon is Crimson, representing the heraldic colour of Britain and Dark Green which represents the sacred colour of the Prophet. The actions were all in the North-West Frontier. Winston Churchill was present and wrote of the situation at Malakand.
